Transfer a .com/net/org/biz/info domain from WIS to another host

General help
Transfer .uk domain to another provider

Transferring a .com/net/org/biz/info domain is somewhat different to .uk domains. When you register a .com domain with ourselves or any other provider the domain is registered on your behalf with a domain registry. At one time this had to be with Network Solutions who used to be the only registry available for .com (a bit like Nominet is for .uk domains). However, a few years ago .com domains were deregulated and a number of domain registries could register .com domains. WIS normally uses the OpenSRS/Tucows registry.

In order to use the domain on another server you then have two choices:

  1. Leave the domain on our account with OpenSRS and change the nameservers which will enable the domain to be used on another server. You can also change the registrant and admin contact details if you wish a the control panel for which we will provide details. In this case, although we would not be hosting the domain we will deal with renewals.
  2. You can move the domain to another domain registry or to another company's account with OpenSRS. This needs to be initiated by the other company - we cannot do this for you. However, due to a recent change in ICANN regulations you will need to obtain an Authorisation Code (commonly called an Auth Code) for the transfer. Please email wis@worldwide.co.uk to request an Authorisation Code and we will arrange for the domain registry to send it to you.

If you would like to take Option 1 above please send an email to support@worldwide.co.uk and we will provide you with the control panel details to enable you to make the necessary changes to nameservers etc.

If you would like to take Option 2 please contact the new host so that they can initiate the transfer and send an email to wis@worldwide.co.uk requesting an Authorisation Code.
